We have been here a few days now and had a few sessions at the comp spot. Team managers meeting went well last night and the judges seem to be top notch and very professional. The break is typical Portuguese beach break. Bit of shore dump especially on the high tide and at low tide a close out axe murderer! Today though is a lay day as it is windy with small conditions. Tomorrow should be running.
Some real standout surfing coming from the young French riders as was expected. The likes of Pablo Paillou’s style is fresh and inventive and real exciting to watch. The old guns haven’t gone away though and the usual suspects are here with medals on their mind. Rees Duncan, Lance Milnes, Steve Farthing, Blair Moore, Ben John, Dale Randal and more represent Australia. Kieron Davies is here from the UK and looking for his Masters title back. Also for UK is Mike Orsmand originally from SA but settled in England. Mike was a former world champ and showed at the last WWT in Reunion that he still has it! The ladies division will be exciting with the absence of Caroline Angibaud. Carolie Jouset (FR), Malissa Hardy, Jacki Dillon (Aus) and Sandra Peinar (RSA) all battling for the female title of World champ.
